Frequently Asked Questions

How can therapy help me?

Therapy offers many benefits, including support, problem-solving, and a greater sense of well-being. The benefits depend on your readiness and commitment but often include increased self-confidence, better communication, deeper self-understanding, healthier patterns, and improved emotional management.

Therapy helps you express feelings and try new ways of thinking and feeling. Use this space to work through all of life’s emotions. Embrace the messy, the awkward, and the tough stuff; that’s where real growth (and occasional laughs) happen!

Why a therapeutic relationship?

Humans are naturally social; we rely on each other to navigate life’s challenges. At the heart of these relationships is trust and safety—kind of like a mental health handshake that doesn’t involve germs. It’s the invisible high-five that says, “I’ve got your back,” without any of the awkward clammy hands or accidental finger wiggles.

In therapy, building that kind of connection lets you open up freely, knowing you’re in a safe space where your thoughts and feelings are respected, not judged or misunderstood. So, think of it as the healthiest handshake you’ll ever share—no sanitizer needed.

If after a few sessions you don’t feel that spark of connection, it’s totally okay to say, “Thanks, but no thanks,” and find a therapist who’s a better fit for you. Your well-being and goals always come first.

Can you fix me?

I’m here to support you—as your cheerleader, your sounding board, and occasionally your reality check. But let’s be real: only you can make the changes in your life. Together, we’ll sift through the confusion, find those “Aha!” moments, and craft a plan that feels right for you.

Therapy isn’t magic; it’s like planting a garden—it takes time, patience, and a little self-compassion (plus maybe a few weeds to deal with). I’m here to help you tend that garden, but I won’t tell you which flowers to grow or when to water—you’re the expert of your own patch.

How long is a session? How long do I have to keep doing therapy?

Sessions are typically scheduled once a week or every other week and last about 45 to 50 minutes.

The length of therapy truly depends on your unique situation—what challenges you're facing, the intensity of your symptoms, and how frequently you engage in sessions. Research shows that many people experience meaningful progress after 8 to 15 sessions, but this timeline can be different for everyone. Most importantly, the decision about how long to continue therapy is entirely yours. Many individuals find ongoing support valuable and choose to continue for months or even years, allowing space for healing and growth at their own pace.

How do I support my teen in therapy?

As a parent or caretaker, your support plays a vital role in your teen’s mental health journey. At the initial consultation, I will connect with you to explain your teen’s privacy rights and talk openly about the role caretakers may play in future sessions - whether that means meeting together occasionally at your teen’s request or when it could positively impact their treatment. Your kindness, patience, and understanding create a caring environment that helps your teen feel safe and supported throughout their healing process.

I welcome parents and caregivers to check in on their teen’s well-being. Teens thrive best with support from all areas of life. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me to schedule a meeting.
